'Simply the best'.  That is how I think of German Shepherd dogs.  I am a relativly in-experienced owner, that is I have not had Shepherds all my life, but I am in love with the breed completely.  It is not just the way they look, though they are one of the best looking dogs there is in my humble opinion, but they are intelligent, loyal, couragious members of the family, and do not deserve their 'dangerous dog' badge.

Of course there are Shepherds that are aggresive, snarling beasts, but what people fail to realise is that it is the owners of these dogs that make them what they are. A Shepherd owner has to be firm with the dog, or these highly intelligent beasts will dominate the entire household, quite happily.

I am not saying that as an owner, you spend all day ordering the dog, shouting, commanding - that would be no fun for the dog or owner. What I mean is that there have to be rules for the dog, and they have to be enforced.  There is no way a dog is going to listen to you if one day he is not allowed on the bed, and the next he is.  Like children, they thrive in an enviroment where they know the limits, and some dogs will push and push towards them.

Shepherds are a very rewarding breed to work with, because of their intelligence and eagerness to please.  Obedience training, and agilty bring out the best in the dogs, and they are happiest when at work doing something.

This site is dedicated to my Shepherds Zakkie and Kemsie, both rescue dogs, and both are loved to bits.
